San Antonio is one the largest cities in America, and the second largest city in the state of Texas. In addition to being diverse and exciting, San Antonio is a growing city, and its job growth is expected to accelerate over the course of this year. According to Keith Phillips, a senior Federal Reserve economist based in the city, there will be a surge of 27, 300 jobs this year. It is predicted that, in 2011, the city's job growth will be more than the overall job growth for the state of Texas.

Some of the top jobs can be found in industries such as health care, manufacturing, the military and finance. The work prospects in these industries, and others, are rather promising.
Health Care Jobs: The health care industry is one of the fastest growing. The city is home to the South Texas Medical Center, one of the busiest medical facilities in the nation, and employs over 27, 000 workers. The San Antonio health care industry experienced a 4.5 percent job growth in 2010. This is expected to continue in 2011.
Jobs in Manufacturing: In general, manufacturing is increasing in the state of Texas, mainly due to the growing demand for exports, particularly in electronics and petrochemicals. In 2010, the manufacturing industry experienced a 3.9 percent job growth. According to the results of the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, some of the best job prospects for the first quarter of 2011 will be in Durable Goods Manufacturing.
Military Jobs: The city is home to four military bases. There are three Air Force bases-Brooks, Lackland and Randolph, and the fourth is Fort Sam Houston. Combined, these military bases provide jobs for almost 75, 000 people.
Finance Jobs: In addition to being home to five Fortune 500 companies, San Antonio has a vast number of headquarters (both national and regional) for major banks and financial institutions.
There are many other jobs in San Antonio, for example call center jobs. More and more companies are expanding their technical support. A good example of this is AT&T- the largest telecommunications company in America, and one of the world's largest.
Other good job prospects are in tourism, which is significant in San Antonio, with the Alamo as its main attraction. Wholesale and Retail Trade, Government, and Information sectors also have ideal job prospects.
